Beauty for Ashes: Hope for despair

Beauty for Ashes

Have you ever thought there is more to life than this? God can take you from a broken place and give you beauty for ashes. This past Sunday while worshiping in church I felt God put in my heart “beauty for ashes.” That’s what I think about when I look back over my life. All the mistakes that I’ve made, all the poor choices and bad breaks, yet somehow God, in His infinite mercy and grace has blessed me and brought me to where I’m at today! I have a beautiful, amazing God-fearing wife, an incredibly amazing and talented daughter who I adore, my health, a job, family, friends, and the list goes on and on. No, my life isn’t perfect, but it certainly doesn’t look the same as it did several years ago. This is part of my story and how God turned my life to beauty fro ashes.

It wasn’t always like this

It wasn’t always like this. About 10 years ago I went from drinking alcohol on the weekends causally to practically drinking every day. Slowly by slowly it started to affect my life more and more to the point that it cost me jobs, money, and most importantly, relationships. It’s rather easy in my opinion to get a job back, and there are always ways to make money, but relationships are a whole other ball game.
People get hurt, offended, emotionally wounded and even sometimes physically hurt as well ( fighting and have you). It can be hard to forgive and forget things like that. It is definitely possible though and through God’s Grace, I’ve seen multiple relationships healed and restored. The two that I enjoy the most now are with my wife and daughter. Both, at times, I was uncertain if I would get to see either of them, ever again.

Where are you in life?

So, whatever you are facing today or whatever you have lost. Whether if you haven’t seen your wife or child in a while or you just feel like your life is a complete mess. God can restore your life. He can turn your “mess” into a message as he did in my life,  He turned my ashes into his beauty, and he can turn yours too!

What does the Bible say about beauty for ashes?

The scripture for this verse actually comes from a famous speech that Jesus proclaimed from Isaiah 61:3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

If you have yet to accept your relationship with Jesus Christ and want a relationship with God and be sure of your eternal salvation, please say this prayer today!

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead and I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen
